It’s important to encourage young people of all ages and abilities to keep fit. It’s also a great facility for parents to have a social catch up with each other whilst watching their children play safely. Having played over 500 games as a professional footballer it’s also great to see not only traditional football but other football related activities on offer like football tennis, target practice, speed shooting and penalty shootouts to help all round skills. I hope the local community will show their support to this new business, I really enjoyed meeting everyone and all of the kids took some great penalties against me, sports centres like this give potential stars of the future somewhere to go in any weather’
Soccerloco, at Candy Park, Bromborough, is the brainchild of Wirral based entrepreneur, Paul Ward, a former Business School Department Manager. Paul took the brave decision to leave his job to pursue his life long ambition of being a business owner, now this ambition is being realised as Soccerlocco, a football themed children and young person activity centre, is set to open on Saturday 9th February.
Soccerloco is aimed at children and young people alike participating in not only football related sporting fun but also healthy activities such as football crazy golf, football tennis, target practice, penalty shootout, football basketball, and speed shooting.
With issues such as obesity in children and young people, being one of the country’s growing health concerns, a healthy lifestyle is high on the agenda of parents and Government alike. Paul sees Soccerloco as an opportunity for people to address these problems in a fun and enjoyable way through the medium of football.
Soccerloco is a family run enterprise, with Paul Ward, (Company Director) bringing in the expertise and enthusiasm of his two sons, Sam and Joe Ward. Sam and Joe will be hands on at the new development, focusing on customer services, new business opportunities, and project planning as well as helping to support the additional nine new jobs which are also being created.
Throughout the project, Soccerloco received support through HSBC with the backing of the Government’s Enterprise Finance Guarantee Scheme, together with ongoing assistance in identifying premises and other key areas of business guidance through Invest Wirral, Wirral Council’s business support team.
Looking forward to opening the new venture, Paul Ward said, “Soccerloco is a concept which I have had for over 18 years, and after leaving my position in the college I decided that now was the right time to turn this aspiration into a reality. This business will offer many opportunities to achieve not just the goals I have set myself, but also offer a chance to introduce young people to new way of achieving a healthy lifestyle through sport, which will be both fun and rewarding.
Paul added,” To enjoy the facilities, visitors will only need to have a sense of fun, no need for teams, kits or training, the friendly environment means that customers can come with their families, friends or schoolmates, and even on their own. It’s also great that legendary former professional goalkeeper turned goalkeeping coach Eric Nixon can come along to help motivate and inspire both staff and visitors at our grand opening event”
As the business develops it will offer the facilities to a diverse range of users, Paul has worked hard to research its potential markets having consulted with a wide range of stake holders including parents, teenagers, schools and football clubs. From this research, one of the key areas now being incorporated into the facility is an activity station for toddlers, this includes a small play area, ball pool facilities and special toddler football equipment, ideal for children’s parties.
All types of people of all shapes and sizes will enjoy Soccerloco, there is no pressure to win the FA Cup or the Premier League just get involved in sport, become healthy and have fun.
